Dutch Applebutter

Here it is y’all! As requested by many, this is the one and only APPLEBUTTER recipe in my book. It is a very old Dutch/Irish recipe, handed down for over 200 years. I love it! I love it! I LOVE it!! I hear angels sing when I taste it and I always share so much of it that I never have enough for myself. I do so hope it makes you as happy as it makes me.

Here’s what you need

  • 9 apples, peeled, cored, chpd
  • 3/4 C water
  • 2 C Apple Cider
  • 1 C Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Cloves
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 2 tsp Vanilla
  • Pinch of salt ( 1/4 tsp)
  • Dutch oven/cast iron stew pot

Here’s what you do

All ingredients into dutch oven ACCEPT vanilla. Bring to boil over medium (5) heat then cook for 20 minutes until apples are soft – stir frequently to prevent burning.

Use and emmersion blender to puree to smooth. (Preheat oven to 250°  You want it to take its own sweet time thickening up. We are in no hurry, low and slow is key.)

Slowly stir in vanilla, then bake un-covered for 3-5 hours. The thicker the better but I like mine at about 3 1/2 hours. Stir well once ever hour.

Immediately fill 1/2 and 1/4 pint jars. Clean mouths, place on boiled lids and rings and process for 20 minutes in boil bath. Let sit until room temp.

*it only take 9 apples, so you can make it all year long*

Because God gave us apples to enjoy 🍎🍏
